Earth Curvature from 43,000 ft altitude

#4 | 9/27/2016 | Author: Wolfie6020 | Type: Youtube | Keywords: Curvature, Cockpit, High Altitude

This video clearly shows the Horizon curvature I see at high altitude. We fly significantly higher than most commercial aircraft. We operate above 45,000 ft routinely. Airliners operate typically Mid to High 30's. (35,000 to 39,000 ft).

Earth's Shadow at 37,000 ft

#3 | 8/30/2016 | Author: Wolfie6020 | Type: Youtube | Keywords: Earth Shadow, Cockpit

This video was taken five years ago during a trip from Perth Australia to Melbourne Australia. Some questions we can ask ourselves here.

  1. Why is the shadow highest opposite the sun?
  2. If the Sun is 3000 miles high then what is producing the shadow?
  3. How is the shadow higher than the aircraft?
  4. What causes the curvature?

Airborne Weather Radar, evidence of Earth's curvature

#53 | 2/18/2017 | Author: Wolfie6020 | Type: Youtube | Keywords: Weather Radar, Aircraft, Cockpit, Tilt Down

Airborne Weather Radar at zero tilt will scan an angle 2.8 degrees down from Level. At 290 Miles from Hawaii the Mountains should be visible on the Radar with zero tilt if the Earth was Flat - the angle from aircraft to the base of the Mountains is 1.7 degrees.

However with zero tilt they are not visible. We need to tilt the radar down 3 degrees to see the Mountains clearly. This is because the earth is a Globe.

The Horizon is NOT always at eye level

#2 | 8/27/2016 | Author: Wolfie6020 | Type: Youtube | Keywords: Horizon Drop, Eye level, HUD, Cockpit

In this video the HUD (Head-up display) shows an accurate level position in steadly level flight. (the two small circles). At 47,000 ft you can see clearly the Horizon has dropped below this level and this is more proof the Earth is Curved.

GPS worked fine all the way from Australia to Hawaii

#15 | 12/17/2016 | Author: Wolfie6020 | Type: Youtube | Keywords: GPS, Flight Tracking, ADS-B, Aircraft, Cockpit

This video shows my Bad Elf Pro GPS recorded a seamless log of the flight from Sydney to Hawaii. GPS works fine everywhere.

It seems many people are confusing the information they see on flight trackers like FlightAware and Flight Radar. These trackers can rely on ground based installations that receive information from the Aircraft, Radar and ADS-B. When the aircraft flies out of range of a ground station it will appear to "drop off the radar" on these simple flight trackers. The GPS is a one way system that provides location information to the aircraft and pilot. It has no tracking capability at all.

GPS works fine everywhere in the world.

Flight Path Vector on Descent points to Horizon 3° below Eye Level

#50 | 8/12/2017 | Author: Wolfie6020 | Type: Youtube | Keywords: Horizon Drop, Eye Level, HUD, Aircraft, Cockpit, Fligh Path Vector, Descent

View through the Head-up display on a descent of a Bombardier Global Express Jet. The eye level line of the HUD is clearly above the horizon. The jet descends on a 3° flight path angle down. The corresponding flight path vector on the HUD points at the horizon. This means the horizon is 3° below eye level or true level.

The Moon is below eye level while cruising at 49,000 ft

#7 | 12/18/2016 | Author: Wolfie6020 | Type: Youtube | Keywords: Moon, Horizon Drop, Eye Level, HUD, Aircraft, Cockpit

On the trip to Hawaii we had a great view of the moon just before it set. You can clearly see it is several degrees below true level (Eye Level is about 1/3rd up from the bottom of the HUD).

This is in total contrast to the Flat Earth claim that the Horizon always rises to eye level. It absolutely does not - the horizon drops by several degrees at this cruising altitude of 49,000 ft. This is clearly evident by the moon being well below eye level.

The Sun illuminating the underside of Clouds - seen from above

At Sunset the Sun has already dropped below the "cloud horizon" produced by a layer of high cloud and was illuminating these clouds from underneath while the top was in darkness. We can also recognize the shadow of the earth projecting into the sky.

Curved Horizon drop demonstrated at Night on the Head-up Display

#23 | 6/8/2017 | Author: Wolfie6020 | Type: Youtube | Keywords: Drop, Curved Horizon, Left Right, HUD, EVS, Aircraft, Cockpit, Sunset

Just another video proving the horizon does not always rise to eye level. The drop at 43,000 ft altitude is about 3.6°, as shown on the Head-up display (HUD) of my aircraft. At this night just after sunset the horizon was very clearly visible and matched exactly the horizon of the Enhanced vision system (EVS) of the HUD. We could even clearly see the left to right curvature of the horizon from that altitude.

Reduction in Gravity due to Centrifugal force caused by flying across Earth's Curvature

On this trip we were flying East with a Ground Speed of 600+ knots due to a healthy tail wind.

We were about 35 South Latitude. The Earth's rotation at this point results in a speed of roughly 740 Knots. Combining both speeds means we were flying at a speed equivalent to 1340 Knots if the earth were a stationary Sphere. Calculating Centrifugal force based on Earth's Radius and this tangential velocity results in 0.007 G.

The accelerometer in the Aircraft rounds this to 0.01 and it can be clearly seen that our speed across the Earth has "reduced" the apparent G felt on board the aircraft by about 1%. The G meter is reading 0.99 in level flight. On the Ground it reads 1.00 always.

Travelling West at the same Latitude also results in 1.00 as we are now flying opposite to the Earth's rotation so the equivalent speed across a stationary Sphere is much lower.
