The World Geodetic System WGS84 is the Globe Model implemented in GPS and is used not only by Google Earth and other map applications, but is also the model used for flight planing and aircraft navigation. It has cm accuracy worldwide. Using Wide Area Augmentation System WAAS it is used to fly thousands of km, even without visibility to the ground, to find the destination runway to m accurcy everywhere on earth.
I show how GPS and the WGS84 model is used in daily flight planing and navigation.

The WGS 84 represents the best global geodetic reference system for the Earth available at this time for practical applications of mapping, charting, geopositioning and navigation.

This division in the Office of Geomatics at NGA is responsible for collecting, processing, and evaluating gravity data. These data are then used to compute gravimetric quantities such as mean gravity anomalies, Geoid heights, deflections of the vertical, and gravity disturbances. All of these quantities are used in World Geodetic System 1984 (WGS84) support, navigation systems, mapping projects, and different types of surveys.
An Earth Gravitational Model (EGM) is set of geopotential coefficients used in a spherical harmonic expansion to create a global potential surface to coincide with Mean Sea Level (MSL). This surface is called a Geoid and it fluctuates above and below the Reference Ellipsoid surface established by WGS 84.

This calculator can be used to compute the effective gravitational acceleration, the pure gravitational acceleration and the centrifugal acceleration for any point on the Reference Ellipsoid of the earth for both surface and at altitude according to the model WGS84.
